northern disco general and machine music lover craig bratley is back with a firing new ep on his own magic feet label. it features one track from him with danielle moore from crazy p, plus a remix from andrew weatherall and one from heretic. bratley operates on the freakier end of the disco dancefloor, with weird electronics and raw jacking grooves propping up his analogue sounds. he has released on andrew weatherall s bird scarer, has put out a fine album on tsuba and hosts his own kaleidoscopic show on leeds kmah radio, so is an accomplished artist and dj indeed.

he s not what you d call a prolific producer but the old saying of quality over quantity couldnt ring truer for marcellis. with just 3 releases in the last 12 years starting with a single on 2004, followed by an ep on workshop and then his album on millions of moments, any new work is highly anticipated. its been a long time coming for nonplus but every bit worth the wait. 3 tracks covering a range of styles from the ice cold analogue quirkiness of sleep, to the bumping 4/4 offering of indigo skyfold through to the jazzed out chugger can they do tha (g love real raw) its an honour to have marcellis as an addition to the catalogue.

following the release of 2015’s animistas album on mindtours, steevio returns with the fourth and final volume in the modular techno series after starting the project in 2012. initially conceived as he moved his studio practice towards a purely outboard, analogue, modular synthesiser set up, the modular techno series has charted the development of steevio’s exploration of this working practice both on record and on stage. the work involved in live appearances across the uk and europe over the past four years have fed into the creative process, with rehearsals for sets often yielding the material that has ended up on vinyl. volume 4 is arguably the darkest instalment in the series to date, dealing in a strict economy of minimalist rhythms and off-key melodic touches while still easily identified as the unmistakable tones and distinctive grooves of steevio. in the grand tradition of techno as visionary music, the dystopian tone that lingers throughout modular techno vol 4 points to a future of uncertainty, but this is far from nihilistic music, always within the darkness remains a glimmer of hope.
